The Subject Recruitment office is open Monday through Friday. Our hours are as follows:
Wednesday from 9 AM – 6 PM
Thursday from 8 AM – 6 PM
Friday from 8 AM – 5 PM
We do not run any studies that present any more than minimal risk. All clinical studies inherently present some risk, but all of our studies have been reviewed and approved for safety by the Gallatin Institutional Review Board (GIRB).
As many as you would like, however, you can only be enrolled in one study at a time. Most of our studies require 7 days between testing, however some studies have a longer period required between test days so you may need to wait to enroll in another study.
You must come into the Subject Recruitment Office NO LATER THAN THE FIRST DAY OF PRODUCT RESTRICTION to meet with a Recruitment Coordinator to sign up and be enrolled in a study. We take walk-ins during office hours as we are able but there may be a wait time before a recruiter is available. You are always welcome to call our office, we are often able to make same-day appointments.
No. We used to have this function available, however, it seemed to cause more confusion than understanding. You can still make an appointment over the phone. If you are unable to reach a recruiter when you call, leave your name and number and a brief message and recruiter will call you back as soon as they are available. Please note that making an appointment over the phone does not save you a place in any study. It simply reserves you a time to speak with a Recruiter.
Compensation is different for each study depending on what the study entails and the amount of time involved for participation. Generally, our studies pay anywhere from $150 to $1000. Compensation may be based on test outcome, and in this case, you are not guaranteed the full compensation. You will be informed of how compensation is determined for your participation by one of our recruiters when you sign up.
Your check will be available for pick-up in the Subject Recruitment office after 2 PM, 7 days after your final test day. When you come to pick up your check, you will be required to show photo ID so we can verify we are releasing checks to the correct person. You may have a friend or family member pick up your check, however you must stop by our office to fill out an Authorization Form or call us yourself to give permission. These forms are valid for 6 months, after which time you will need to fill out a new one. You will need to fill out a new form for each additional person you authorize us to release your checks to.
No, you are not an employee of BSL, rather a volunteer who is paid for their time. However, if you make $599 or more in a year, we do report your earnings to the IRS and you will receive a 1099 Form. You may request a report of your yearly earnings from us for your use.
You must be at least 18 years old to participate. Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, all our studies have a maximum age limit of 70 years. Subjects between 66-70 years old must have proof of COVID-19 Vaccination completed at least 30 days prior to the first day of testing. Some studies have a lower age maximum, as this is a requirement set by the sponsor whose product we are testing.
Tattoos and/or scars located on or close to the test site(s) may exclude you from some of our studies. It depends on the location of the test site(s) and the type of study.
We have a few studies that involve a “no-shower period” but most of our studies do not have this requirement. The studies with this requirement have a higher compensation than studies without the shower restriction.
