BioScience Laboratories Inc. (BSLI) located in Bozeman, MT, officially opens its new biosafety level-3 laboratory for testing today. This new laboratory space, commissioned by Cornerstone Commissioning at the end of 2020, extends BSLI’s testing capabilities to provide testing using agents requiring BSL-3 level security. “Our new BSL-3 lab allows us to offer our sponsors testing for their products against a wide variety of new, more challenging organisms”, says John Dyba, Director of Business Development at BioScience Laboratories. “Most notably, we can offer efficacy testing against the coronavirus strain SARS-COV-2, which is the culprit of the current pandemic.”
The new laboratory space is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure the safety of laboratory staff working with these agents as well as the surrounding community. Features such as custom-built filtered ventilation system, in laboratory autoclave and specialized biosafety cabinet allow for safe, efficient, and accurate testing to gather necessary data from studies.
“This project was a great mix of engineering and scientific expertise coming together. We designed the lab to allow for the most efficient testing possible, using these higher-level agents, without sacrificing the safety of our staff and community”, explains Jeremy Duley, Systems Administrator and Quality Control Supervisor at BioScience Laboratories.
Scheduling for BSL-3 studies is available now. Testing methods available include ISO-18184 & 21702, EN-14476, and ASTM 1052 & 1053. Custom study designs are also available and dedicated scientific experts are available to discuss study options.
