Margaret Butler, Ph.D

Department Scientist

Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Butler, holds a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from the University of Montana followed by further Post-Doctoral training in Biochemistry at Dartmouth Medical School. Her experience includes 15 years as Research Faculty in the Cell Biology Department at Yale University School of Medicine and 4 years at the University of Chicago School of Medicine, focusing on the function of proteins that are involved in nerve-to-nerve communication in both healthy and diseased brain tissues. Dr. Butler joined Nelson Labs Bozeman (formerly known as BioScience Laboratories) in September 2010, working five months in the Clinical Laboratory and almost two years in the Quality Assurance Unit. Those positions gave her broad exposure to the scientific and regulatory operations of our industry in a relatively short time and led to her promotion to Department Scientist in November 2012. Dr. Butler works closely with our Management and Sales/Marketing teams to provide high-quality service to our clients, as well as exploring new developments in our industry. She has a keen interest in understanding the intercellular signaling that microorganisms utilize in the life cycle of biofilms and their increased resistance to antimicrobial agents.
